The current Draft Strategy is a result of a revision of the draft published in September 2020, which was criticized in the public domain. It is developed considering the framework of the EU energy policy, aimed at achieving the ambitious Community goals for the transition to a low-carbon economy. The Draft Strategy defines the main decisions that must be taken by local authorities to achieve the national goals, taking into account the specifics of the energy mix. The development of the draft strategy puts in focus the trends, measures, and policies in the field of energy security, energy efficiency, the liberalisation of the electricity and gas market, as well as their integration into the Common European Market, the development and application of new energy technologies. The common European policies and objectives for energy development and climate change mitigation are the basis of Bulgaria's future development in the energy sector while reflecting national specificities in the field of energy resources, energy production, transmission, and distribution.
The draft Strategy for Sustainable Energy Development of the Republic of Bulgaria until 2030 with a horizon of 2050 is published for public consultations for 30 calendar days, starting from 09.02.2021. Opinions, proposals, and comments can be sent to the following e-mail address: necp@me.government.bg. The draft document is available here.
